Gallagher Shopping Park, Port Glasgow
Port Glasgow is located at the eastern gateway to Inverclyde, an area famous for its industrial and shipbuilding heritage, which is now subject to a new retail and residential-led development around the A8 corridor and Clyde waterfront.
Gallagher have secured planning permission for a mixed use scheme comprising a 110,000 sqf.ft Tesco Extra superstore, 160,000 sq. ft of non-retail floorspace and a range of other commercial development uses to include restaurants, a hotel and a public house.
The scheme required a major diversion of the A8 which included Road Orders for the closure of the existing A8 and opening of the new road. Construction commenced in January 2005 on the new road which is now complete. Work is continuing on the old A8. The alignment of the new road is superimposed on the attached aerial photograph.
It is intended that the Tesco Extra will open for trade in Spring/Summer 2007.
Construction of the shopping park will commence during 2007.
