Gallagher Leisure & Retail Park, Scunthorpe
The retail park site, to the north of Doncaster Road, was acquired by Gallaghers in November 1997. Originally, planning consent existed for a leisure scheme but a subsequent planning application provided consent, gained at appeal, for a retail food-store. A further application extended the floorspace provisions of the consent and a section of the site was sold to Tesco. The implementation of the planning consent was conditional upon securing and providing access from Doncaster Road, which involved negotiations with local land owners, Scunthorpe Football Club.
The remainder of the site was subject to a planning application for 100,000 sq.ft of open non-food retail consent, which was gained following Judicial Review. Lettings were secured to B&Q, Next, TK Maxx and Toys R Us with construction of the units completed in 2002.
On the south side of Doncaster Road, opposite the retail park, Gallaghers acquired further holdings from a local land owner to facilitate a leisure development. This site has been developed in plots since 2002 with lettings to McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and Travelodge. The most recent transaction has been a new letting to Frankie and Benny’s which opens in December 2006.
A planning application for the development of a 77,000 sq.ft Trade Park on the remaining three acres is currently being promoted.
