Gallagher Retail Park, Caerphilly
Gallaghers acquired Crossways Park in 2001 which comprised six secondary industrial units located off the A468 route between Cardiff and Newport. At the time of acquisition the only retail operator in close proximity was Focus.
Since 2001 the site has been developed out in phases. The first stage was the development of the B&Q unit in 2002 comprising 46,500 sq.ft and a garden centre together with a small fast food plot which was sold on to McDonalds.
Planning consent totalling 50,000 sq.ft was secured for phase 2 in 2002 and the construction of the first three units was completed in late 2003. Current operators on this phase include, MFI, Carpetright, Pizza Hut, Currys and recent additions, Halfords and Dreams.
Whilst Phase 2 was under development Gallaghers acquired the Focus unit at Crossways in summer 2003 to gain sole control of the immediate retail surroundings.
Planning consent has been secured for two further phases of development totalling an additional 170,000 sq.ft which, when complete, will mark a major transformation from its origins to a major retail development benefiting the local and wider community. Pre-lets have been agreed with Wickes, Focus and Next.
