Gallagher Retail Park, Longwell Green, Bristol

This site was acquired from the local authority in 1984 as a result of the construction of the south Bristol bye-pass. Once the land was acquired Gallagher had to purchase the freehold and leasehold interests of the Allied Carpet unit which sat across the proposed entrance to the scheme.

Allied Carpets were signed up to take 15,000 sq.ft. on the new development but subsequently assigned their contract to Comet. The Park also comprises a B&Q warehouse of 102,000 sq.ft. The scheme has a bulky goods planning consent.

Previously, Gallagher had developed the Wickes and Homebase sites which were sold on to Land Securities. Likewise, Gallagher owned but sold on the land opposite B&Q to Hartwells for a car showroom.

More recently Gallagher have entered into a joint venture with Clerical Medical to develop a 91,000 sq.ft. shopping park. Open A1 (non-food) planning consent has been secured and notices required vacant possession will shortly be served to commence the development process.

Retailers Next, M&S and Boots are already committed to the scheme; with strong interest being shown by a number of high street retailers. The scheme is planned to open in December 2006.
